RANCANG BANGUN ALAT PENGERING GABAH TERFLUIDISASI (FLUIDIZED BEDS DRYER)
There are two methods used in drying rice grain; traditional drying and artificial drying (mechanical drying). Traditional drying is drying process done by using sun rays as source of energy, while mechanical drying is done using any tools (dryer). The best temperature to dry rice grain is at a temperature of 650C. Besides, the best condition of the drying is also influenced by air flow rate and the dimensions of the drying chamber. Aim of this study is to design and construct rice grain dryers using gas stoves as heater. It was used blower to push the heated air to the drying chamber. The drying temperature used was 650C. There were some stages of this study; developing blower as source of air, making the dryer in accordance with the design, testing in real condition and simulating the design with software. Technical evaluation was done to test and analyze the dryer performance, including air velocity, temperature and compare the results with software simulation. Result of the development of the dryer was a 3D design drawing in some components; tool dimension, Blower, Heater, Plenum and Drying Chamber. The result of the test was that (1) by using the standard gas stove as the heat source, the dryer was able to generate temperature of 680C in the drying chamber, (2) by using the simulation, it was generated temperature of 65oC in drying chamber at 290oC of heater source. The simulation test was more valid compared to the direct test. This was caused by that in simulation test, the decrease of temperature and air velocity were more efficient
