KEKUATAN BENDING KOMPOSIT SANDWICH SERAT SERABUT KELAPA (COCO FIBER) – MATRIK EPOXY DENGAN CORE KERTAS KARDUS

The use of environmentally friendly materials that are capable of being recycled and capable of being destroyed by nature are the demands of today's technology. The advantages of sandwich composites are light but high strength. Composite sandwiches consist of a core of honeycomb or foam with very low density and thin and rigid skin. This study aims to determine the effect of thick core (core) on bending strength by experiment on coco fiber fiber (coco fiber) sandwich composite and epoxy matrix with volume fraction of 5%.
In this study, the thickness of the cores used was 20 mm, 30 mm, and 40 mm, while the skin thickness was constant at 5 mm. The test method used to determine the bending power by experiment is Three Point Bending (TPB). The test standard used is ASTM C393. In this study the composite was formed like a sandwich of two skins flanking the core, the skin is made with hand lay up technique based on epoxy reinforced plant fibers from li, the industry in the form of fiber fibers of coconut. Core made of cardboard paper is intended to reduce the weight of the composite type and increase its strength so it is worth applying
The results of the study showed that the highest average bending strength was found on 30 mm thick (20 mm thick) core thickness and 10.28 MPa and the lowest was found in 50 mm thick (core thickness) thickness of 7.80 Mpa. The composite bending volume of coco fiber fibers fibers with the cardboard cores decreases with the thickness of the cardboard cores. Due to the difference of core dimension causing difference of upper skin tension and bottom skin acceptance and moment inertia influence from common formula of bending voltage
