SIFAT MEKANIS BETON DARI AGREGAT KASAR DAUR ULANG DENGAN METODE HEATING DAN GRINDING
Concrete is the most dominant building materials used in the construction industry. Along with
increasing needs of the concrete, demand of its raw materials will also increase. In order to reduce the
dependence of its natural materials, the exploitation of recycled concrete aggregates can be used to
create a new concrete material. Since so many old concrete building have been demolished due to
particular reasons, the use of recycled concrete will also overcome waste concrete problem. The effort
to use recycled coarse aggregate concrete was carried out in this study using heating and grinding
method.
This study employed 28 days old concrete representing original concrete material to be
recycled. The recycled coarse aggregates were heated to temperature of 100o followed by grinding
process using Los Angeles Machine of 600 cycles. Mechanical properties of material such as
compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and flexural strength of the
specimens were examined to compare with the previous original specimens. Physical properties of the
aggregates have also observed including gradation of aggregates, bulk density and specific gravity.
Results of this study showed there were minor differences of mechanical properties between
the original specimens and the recycled specimens. Compare to the original concrete specimens, the
compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, and flexural strength of the
recycled concrete specimens were decreased by 5.9%, 5.7%, 3,1% and 11.4%, respectively.
Therefore, the heating and grinding method of recycled coarse aggregate concrete can be utilized
adequately to produce new concrete material
